Finished tiles and other things

At long last the tiles are finished, they have been a good exercise to do and have given me the structure for the next big jar that I need to begin coiling today. I am particularly pleased with the left hand tiles and the way the plants layer over each other.

Below is the front of the recession proof dish, rather minimal and subtle, very unlike me. I have used a white earthenware and coloured slips, it will be interesting to see how this comes out.

Finally the pottery mascots have well and truly dug themselves in. They set up camp while I was in England and have now got eggs!

WOW, fabulous tiles mum... very funky indeed! Can't believe how lucky you are to have those swallows in your pottery. I am very jealous. Mind you, if they were in my studio I wouldn't get any work done, I would be too busy watching them all of the time.

The tiles are beautiful. I see what you mean about the overlapping plants, how it affects the depth. The swallows are so sweet. Your plate is unique and I can't help but think of the Red Cross here which helps those in need, and yet it also reminds me of some quilt patterns and how the fabrics are often gradutated like the colors you have chosen for the crosses. I can't believe how crisp your lines are, something for me to aspire to. Do you put transparent glazes over the top of your painted decorations?

Thanks Linda. Yes transparent lead Sesquilicate high glaze over all the slip decoration, high lead to make them particularly sparkly and a bit of flint for extra “ting”, it will change the colours considerably and make them all more vivid I think. Not at all sure about the white earthenware yet, it is not a clay I like particularly as it is so gutless when fired I always think. I normally use the red. Sharp edges are down to good brushes and then I go around the edge with my porcupine quill sort of cutting in. Started a big build yesterday for a jar which will have the garden on the tiles on.

Of course you will get the finished album, I am thinking of getting one printed, you have some pictures that I haven't got like the one on the beach against the palm tree, can you scan it and any others too?
