Final Kiln

These are the last of the pieces for England. The tiles are for my cousin whose house burnt down last month, as you can see I lost one and had to make another. It cracked in the drying probably because I rest a very heavy slap of slate over them to help keep them flat and this one was beginning to curl already.

Also one last fish, quite a big one at 39 cm.

Oh I love the colors on the new fish bright and cheery, just beautiful, he seems so happy some how. I can imagine floating in the sea would be peaceful and happy. Luckily you were able to make a new tile to replace the one which was broken.

Sorry I haven't been in touch since you finished decorating your Midnight Garden Jar, things have been a bit all over the place here in the aftermath of the Dunedin exhibition and working through a year's paperwork. I think I have really needed a holiday. Anyway, I'm back! And I have just been gazing in admiration at the new work you have been firing.

I was so delighted to see the way the Midnight Garden Jar turned out, and also love the fish, tv cards, and tiles! One of my favorite fish is your "Recession Proof" square one, as a former dabbler in print making, I like the wood cut sort of look it has.

Rays are fantastic hi-tech flying machine fish. I had the pleasure of going to a really good aquarium once where you could walk down a long glass tube, and rays swam (or flew) over the top. Magical stuff.

Your cousin must be having such a hard time putting life together again after the house burning down, but those tiles are such a lovely, thoughtful treasure that I am sure they will do a lot of good in making things come right.

Hope you have a lot of success in England with your lovely work.
